Atelier - Aubergine Coverlet
Atelier - Aubergine Coverlet
This French coverlet* is made from pure linen and has a wonderful texture: soft and silky. Dyed a dark aubergine (with a brown undertone). The monogram is large and elaborately done. I would say it has a slight art deco feel to the style, so would date this to roughly 1910 - 1920. The top and about two feet down each side has deep ladder-stitching, as well. Generously sized at roughly 123" long (and roughly 87" wide), the extra length could easily be converted into matching pillows. This coverlet looks exceptional with the two "lilac" pillows (one with poppy damask and the other with the exceptional monogram and vine embroidery), and the "silvery-grey" metis coverlet. Layering the aubergine coverlet at the foot of the bed atop the silvery-grey, with one of the lilac pillows: Simply Sublime!
*I recommend using these beautiful antique sheets as coverlets. They are wonderful to lay as an accent atop a duvet cover, bedspread or comforter; or directly over your sheets (depending on the size and your preference).
