Atelier - Heavy Chanvre Coverlet
Atelier - Heavy Chanvre Coverlet
Gorgeous coveret*! A heavy weight chanvre (hemp) sheet from France. With the center seam, this dates to pre 1890 (until about 1890 or so, looms were much smaller, so a sheet would be seamed together down the middle). Hand-dyed a dark sea glass green-blue. This is the only hemp sheet I have found with an elaborate monogram; most have very simple monogram, usually in a corner. This one has thickly raised, padded embroidery, including chainstitching. This sheet is very heavy: roughly 5 pounds. Incredible texture: a buttery, floppy hand. This has a generously-sized length of 120 inches (width 72"), so could be shortened and the cut off portion made into coordinating pillows
*I recommend using these beautiful antique sheets as coverlets. They are wonderful to lay as an accent atop a duvet cover, bedspread or comforter; or directly over your sheets (depending on the size and your preference).
